“You know the difference between you and me? I make this look GOOD.”
—Will Smith, Men in Black
Dress For Success
When you look good, you feel good. And when you feel good, you ‘do’ good. So make sure you’re always putting your best foot forward. Shower in the morning, and wear something that puts you in a working mood, whatever makes you feel good. Some people prefer button up shirts, others prefer t-shirts.
People who work from home get a pretty sweet deal: pants are optional. When you first start working from home, you may joke about sitting in your underwear while taking a client call or wake up by noon and work all night. That may be cool for a while but will eventually get old. It’s also too easy to wake up and get stuck in work right away before even grabbing something to eat, let alone get dressed. Half the day can pass before you hop in the shower, get dressed and get motivated. After a while it can feel like the days drag on and on.
Besides looking good for clients, you need to look good for you. You’re giving your body physical and visual signals that this is “work” time, wearing apparel that makes it easiest for you to perform your work, and signaling to yourself and to anyone else who sees you that you take this work seriously and believe in the value of your business, and yourself.
